First Rockets

Before I started incorporating advanced 3D-printed builds and telemetry into my rocket, we first began using pre-made rockets from Estes and Rocketarium in order to carry payloads and certain modules.

Modular System Design:

This system consists of a locking ring and a screw, which is used for the rocket in order to effectively link parts together through the connector parts located on each section of the rocket.

Design Phase:

To solve the problem of having to customarily build a rig or separate attachment for every flight, I designed a standardized locking interface. This allows for quick swaps of nose cones and recovery systems, reducing field assembly time and ensuring consistent structural alignment.

Clamp Lock

Bolt Retention

The screw lock ultimately allows for me to ensure the rocket remains structurally sound between different modules that provide resistance to vibration and secure connection without premature deployment.

Engine Section:

The main section of the rocket is split into two parts:

  • Payload Section
  • Engine Block

The engine block purely holds the motor, baffle, vents, and attachment points for the gases that come out of the back of the rocket in order to propel it further. Near the top of the rocket, the payload and nose cone are attached that then drag a parachute out to result in successful deployment.
