Aligning with the objectives used in the Digital Optimization tab of the project, simulations are used to analyze flight characteristics of the rocket and therefore be able to build on top of that for future optimizations and improvements.
Analytic Process:
The main goal is to ultimately smooth out inconsistencies in rocket design to achieve maximum performance with minimal complexity. These goals are usually split into tasks such as:
- Balancing aerodynamic efficiency with mission requirements
- Viewing potential flaws in rocket design (especially in prototyping stages)
- Ability to test various rocket iterations without wasting time in real-world testing
- Be able to accurately predict rocket flight pattern during real-world scenarios
Software:
Openrocket:
Free, open-sourced flight simulator that allows me to emulate rocket flight locally on my computer.
Interpret the results, highlighting how they address the goals (e.g., identifying flaws, balancing efficiency).
